Architecture for living collections.

Editorial identity

Our editorial cellar

Maplehorizonscand examines cheese tasting rooms as architecture for living collections: places of care, interpretation and shared attention.

A collection-led point of view

We write for architects, cheesemongers and curious collectors who want to understand why a room works, not simply how it photographs. Our starting point is the collection itself: regional identity, physical form, turnover and the people responsible for keeping it.

The four guides move from the collection brief to environmental controls, the tasting sequence and the material specification. Each can be read independently, but the decisions become more useful when considered together.

What counts as evidence

We link to primary organisations, official registers and public guidance where they support a factual claim. Protected product names are treated as specific designations, not decorative vocabulary. A regulatory reference is identified by its jurisdiction and purpose rather than presented as universal approval.

Our architectural observations are editorial judgements. Sensory descriptions are observations, not laboratory results. Concept renders illustrate spatial ideas and are not records of completed projects. Photography can reveal an arrangement, but it cannot verify a food-safety process or certify a material.

Clear limits

This website provides general information. It does not supply project-specific design, engineering, legal, medical or food-safety advice. We are not a cheese producer, retailer, certification body or booking service. References to organisations and protected cheeses do not imply affiliation or endorsement.

Corrections are welcome

If a source has changed, a regional designation needs clarification or a passage blurs the line between atmosphere and safe practice, please tell us. Include the page address, the relevant sentence and a primary source where possible. We review correction requests without promising a response time.
